Mom, What's Hot Chocolate?

Chad is keeping our place as frigid as possible so it will stay cool when/if we loose power. So I told him we needed some hot chocolate. Afterall, it is a VERY rainy day and we are cooped up in the house. I turned to Morgan for an affirmative "yes, we need hot chocolate" only to be asked "what's hot chocolate?" Geez, I forgot I took my toodler of 2 years old, who is now nearing 5 and brought her to the warm tropical island of the caribbean where there is no need for such luxuries as hot chocolate. That is all it took, Chad braved the rain and jumped in the car to run to the last of the open grocery stores to buy some hot chocolate for Morgan.

She was thrilled to have this delicious drink. She just kept saying this is YUMMY!!! I like hot chocolate!
They don't have any instant hot chocolate here so Chad made the real stuff with chocolate chips and milk! We even made real whipped cream to go on top.

Omar update

Nothing new really as far as projected path. We are still under a hurricane warning and it's expected to hit sometime in the wee hours of the night.
Chad was out of class by 9 AM, the whole school is closed today and tomorrow. Should be interesting for Chad to get his studying done for an exam Friday morning. Good thing we have lots of candles! (and generator)
I went to the store at 8 AM and got some more water and a few other supplies. Morgan even convienced her dad she needed a doll to pass the time away today since we will be in the house all day. So far it's working...she hasn't put the thing down yet. I filled the car with gas and then went and took a few pictures of the nice calm water and sandy beaches. Since tomorrow it won't be like that. All the sand will be gone!
We did our morning load shedding of power so hopefully we will have power for the rest of the day- who knows though that's a hit and miss situation. :)
Don't worry to all of you who think I will be outside in the midst of all the wind and rain that is sure to come. I haven't lost all my marbles to the ocean water...I will use the little bit of common sense I have left. Besides, what am I going to see at 2 AM in the dark?

Hurricane Omar, How close will you come?

As if being on an island wide load shedding with our power weren't enough to finish off my last week here in St. Kitts...
We are now under a hurricane warning with Omar out there in the Caribbean (yes, you read correctly...this is not normal to have a hurricane off the Caribbean) knocking at our front door.
Tomorrow I will watch the weather forecasts closely, go to the store and make sure we have gas in the car and water stored. OH and of course I will make sure to have all camera batteries fully charged!
If you look at this satellite pic closely...St. Kitts is the island right above the 17 mark. I know it looks like the hurricane is going to hit Puerto Rico directly but if you look at the picture below from the National Hurricane site it shows it going just barely to the south and barely to the north of us.
Fear not though...we have been told by our prophets of the church that if you are prepared you shall not fear. We live high up on the mountain, with a generator and plenty of canned food and pasta.
I'll keep things updated as the power and rain permit!
P.S. Beth, your going to miss out on all the excitement...we could get as much as 20" of rain and the Marriott road is already flooded from the rain we have been getting since Saturday.

Life Under the Sea

As Morgan and I are wrapping up our last week here in St. Kitts we wanted to share a smidggen of our weekly life exploring the deep blue. We have learned about a whole new world and gained an appreciation for another of our Heavenly Fathers creations.

With no power in the afternoon, Morgan has become our entertainment. I have no idea what this song is she's singing but it gave us both a good laugh!

In the dark

We are on day two of our island wide power outage. Seems that early Thursday morning there was a fire at the power station and two generators were burned up. We went all day yesterday with no power, finally at about 7 PM the power came on for our area of the island. This morning (Friday), it went back down and it's now approaching midnight and we are still in the dark. How am I writing this post you might ask? Well, after having lived on this island for 2 years I have learned the importance of renting a place equipped with a generator. Luckily for my sanity one of my neighbors has a wireless router so I can also be on the internet.

Looks like we will be in the dark for at least 2 weeks! The island is on a load sharing schedule and for some reason tonight our area of the island didn't get their share. HMMM, not sure why but once again I'm thankful for the generator.

Guess we will be spending our daytime hours at a beach or poolside to help keep Morgan busy.
