A true boy

Where there is mud, he will find it
If his sisters leave their clothes laying around he will wear it
through the mud puddle while chewing on a stick

If there is water to get wet in he will be drawn to it

If there is a tree to climb he will attempt to be big enough to master it

Luckily, he has a sister who likes to do all that stuff too!

What to do in Forks?

When company comes to visit you need to get out and show them the sights. We started with the Twilight spots first of course, afterall isn't that why all tourist come to Forks?

A stop at Bella's house,

then to see if Dr. Cullen was at work (he wasn't, his parking spot was empty).

There was a quick jaunt through a small section of rain forest.

Three days of camping and singing around the camp fire.

Of course, if there is a campfire you must have some roasted (or in Tori's case burnt) marshmellows.

We spent an evening playing at the beach!

Some tried to capture the sun and store it up for the winter months when we will really want that sun to shine!

Chad showed us how to retrieve a buoy when the dog refused to swim across the river and get it.

All the kids had a good time floating down the river,

whether is was with just their life jackets or on a tube.

Fishing is also a good thing to try when in Forks.

Once again the method doesn't really matter,

but I will say Tori caught the most with just her bucket and quick hands!

You can even fish like true REDNECKS when in Forks, just like Chad and Eric did!

Quileute Days

We spent the day in La Push for the reservations Quileute Days. We rode the train again in the parade then afterwards participated in the events for the day.

We got a tour of the Coast Guard boat and had our turn sitting in the drivers seat.

Then we watched the canoe races. How about racing around in this log! No thanks, but I could see my brother thinking it was a blast.

Of course being in werewolf territory we saw members of Twilight. This is Gil Birmingham who played Jacob Black's grandfather in the first movie. We didn't get an autograph because I was not about to pay $20 for ink on a piece of paper.

The day wouldn't be complete if we didn't see those who resemble the rest of the twilight cast. Edward, Jacob and Bella made "fake" appearances and the fans went wild!

Canoe Journey

There is an annual canoe journey here. Indian tribes from all over the penninsula, Canada and Alaska gather and row together. We saw them in Port Angeles and watched the ceremony as they come ashore. It was really pretty neat and the boats were amazing!

The newspaper reported that over 70 boats came into port that day.

The craftsmanship on some of the canoes was amazing and others were painted up to tell of their particular tribe.

When they come into shore they circle around before coming into land. Then they state who they are, what tribe they are from and ask permission to come ashore.

I did my best to get a recording of one of the groups coming ashore. This particular group did a little chant before speaking.

Beach Day

The coastline is a little different then what Morgan would describe the beach is like, but the waves still beacon to be played in and the sand still feels warm beneath our feet.

We find cool rivers flowing into the ocean

and cold waves chasing at our feet,

but the sand is still a baby's favorite thing to play in!!

He Walks!!

It's official Kordale is now walking!

But the preferred mode of transportation is still in 4 wheel drive. Won't be long before he gives that up entirely so for now we enjoy that some things are still safe.

Old Fashioned 4th of July

We rode the train over and over again, but still didn't get enough!

Kordale had a turn at trying to be a vampire, but the teeth were just to big.

The girls ran their hardest trying to run the foot races and got a reward of getting their faces painted.

Kordale's reward for enduring the day was a nice cold ice cream cone! YUM!!

We stood out in the rain to watch the parade go by and it was almost like halloween with all the candy they collected.

Morgan showed off her patriotism with flags and was the hit of the parade. Everyone continually said, "look how cute that little girl is!"

Kordale got tired of watching the cars and floats go by and finally closed his eyes just in time for us to get in the train and be part of the parade.

We even had an 'Edward, Bella and Alice' sighting. Afterall, this is Forks!

The marching band was in the form of an orchestra and they weren't marching but hitching a ride on a trailer (string instruments were in the back of the truck undercover, since it was raining)

Chad got to be the train engineer for the parade and snaked us down highway 101 while we threw candy out the back.

Will we ever get there?

Here we go again!

This is what it looked like as we set off on our 1000 mile journey

to our new home in Forks, Washington.

With no cruise control working, you just do your best to hold a steady foot and follow the road.

Time to kick off the shoes and settle in for a long drive.

Knowing the view was not going to change much in front or out the back,

Breaks to walk the dog, get the trailer axels repacked with grease and get a last Sonic fix become the highlight of the trip,

only to be awoken at night with sprinklers attacking your tent and being forced to sleep on the asphalt.

After the first day of driving your co-pilots give up and leave you to entertain yourself.

We appreciated the sunny skies, knowing we were entering the land of notorious rain (It rains anywhere from 10-12 feet per year here.)

At last, we knew we were almost there when we saw the Pacific Ocean. Kordale wasn't to sure of his first encounter with it. Hopefully when we take him another day he will enjoy getting to feel the sand between his toes.
